A remake of the 2018 Hindi film Andhadhun, the film tells the story of a blind pianist who unwittingly becomes embroiled in a murder case. In 2019, Thiagarajan acquired the remake rights of Andhadhun, and the following year, it was announced that Mohan Raja would be directing. However, Raja left the project and was replaced by J.J. Fredrick. Fredrick also left a few months later, after which Thiagarajan himself took over. Principal photography began in March 2021, mainly in Chennai, and ended in November 2022. The film’s music was composed by Santosh Narayanan, cinematography was by Ravi Yadav, and editing was by Satish Suriya.
Andhagan was released in theatres on August 9, 2024, after facing production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film received generally positive reviews and audience response was also positive, with some claiming it was Prashant’s long-awaited comeback.

Andhagan Story
Krishna “Krish” from Puducherry is an aspiring pianist who pretends to be blind to improve his piano skills. When he was trying to cross the street, he is pushed away by Julie. She takes care of Krish and Julie is impressed by Krish’s talent and they begin a romantic relationship. Krish wears opaque lenses for piano practice but after meeting Julie, he is tempted to see her. He stops wearing the opaque lenses and just pretends to be blind. At a restaurant, Karthik, a retired actor, notices Krish and invites him to a private performance on their wedding anniversary.
When Krish arrives at Karthik’s apartment, Karthik’s wife Simi opens the door. To avoid their nosy neighbor Dhusa, who happens to see that Krish is blind, Simi lets Krish into the house to play the piano. Krish sees Karthik’s dead body nearby but has to continue playing along, pretending not to know in order to maintain his blindness. He also witnesses Manohar, Simi’s lover, hiding in the bathroom. While Krish plays, Simmi and Manohar clean up the scene and pack the body into a suitcase.
Andhagan Review
Director Thiagarajan lends the film a cinematic subtlety, building tension through landscapes, music and gestures. The cinematography is particularly noteworthy, with clever framing that makes excellent use of the audience’s point of view, especially in the scene where Krishna’s blindness is questioned. The sound design complements the visual narrative, with the songs cleverly chosen to suit the scenes. The timing of the comedy duo Yogi Babu and Urvashi, as well as Mano Bhalla as a police officer, brings levity to the tense tale.
Prashant’s versatility shines as he convincingly pretends to be blind even during intense interrogations. Simran embodies the role of the “femme fatale” with skill. Yogi Babu and Urvashi shine in their comical roles, supporting actors like Priya Anand, Samuthirakani and KS Ravikumar blend well with the others in their dialogues and situations, and Karthik adds a touch of grandeur to his brief appearance. Santosh Narayanan’s music is versatile and well-suited. Andagan offers a mix of suspense and humour that keeps the audience engaged till the end. A faithful reproduction of the original.
