Appatha is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language film directed by Priyadarshan. The film stars Urvashi (in her 700th film appearance) and Sidharth Babu. The film was screened at the 2023 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Film Festival. Its JioCinema premiere took place on July 29, 2023.

The former has the magical power to grab the viewer’s attention and leave them with a warm feeling long after the end credits have rolled. P Sangeeta of OTT Play gave the film 2.5 stars out of 5 and wrote In terms of character development, Appatha has moments that tug at our heartstrings. Veteran actress Urvashi’s performance is a joy to watch and is enough of a reason to watch the film. Avinash G. Ram of Vijaya Karnataka gave the film 3 out of 5 stars and said, “The dog at the son’s house welcomes his father back home.
The father-in-law has to go on a trip, leaving his mother at home with the dog. The story is about how a father finds himself in such a situation,” writes Rajesh Dagman of TV9 Kannada, “Action is needed. Despite these limitations, animal lovers, those who like emotional stories and those looking for a heart-rending laugh will enjoy the film,” writes a critic from Ananda Vikatan, “Apatta’s husband’s photographs and witty poetry that changes with the times, changing your diet is a joy and will bring a smile to your face. Everything falls into place in the first hour and the screenplay develops into a feel-good film. After an hour of melodrama, the screenplay derails.”

Appatha Movie Story
The story revolves around a rural mother (Urvashi) who visits her son (Sam) who lives in the city. The mother finds it difficult to adjust to city life and one day ends up alone with her son’s dog. At first she is scared of the dog and ends up making a mess in the house. The mother and dog then develop a close bond. The story ends with a heartwarming scene where the mother finds her own identity after being yelled at by her son on stage.

This film shows how simple acts can do wonders and leave an indelible mark on everyone’s mind. Kudos to director Priyadarshan for collaborating with us in this film and veteran actress Urvashi for pulling off the ‘Pickle’ coup. Home-cooked food is always appreciated and wholeheartedly appreciated. I loved the scenic places in and around Parkhardt. Nothing beats the greenery of Kerala. Not to forget the outstanding performance of Juice the dog. Tears were often in my eyes. Apata’s son Sodapal Sundaram, his Gujarati wife and their son and his son from the TV series Abhiyum Naanum all shone in their roles.
