Ranganayaki, the matriarch of a wealthy family, weathers a series of misfortunes with her family. Her family includes her elder brother, his son and his family, and her younger brother and his family. She also has four daughters, who live with her – Gayathri, Priya and Divya. The family suffers major setbacks when her eldest daughter runs away and she and her husband are killed in a plane crash.
Other disasters include a mysterious fire at the family’s factory and a road accident that leaves Divya paralyzed and postpones her engagement. Seeking a solution, Ms. Ranganayaki consults the family astrologer, Guruji, who advises her to pray at her ancestral temple in Vettaiyapuram. The prayers must be in the presence of the entire family, including the eldest orphaned daughter, who is now in Pandiyan’s care. Though hesitant, the family follows Guruji’s advice and travels to Vettaiyapuram.
