Gangubai Kathiawadi is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language biographical crime film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced by Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada. The film stars Alia Bhatt in the lead role, alongside Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, Seema Pahwa, Jim Sarbh and Ajay Devgn.
The film is about Gangubai Kothewari, whose life is chronicled in the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai by S. Hussain Zaidi. The film depicts the coming of age of a simple girl from Kathiawad, who had no choice but to submit to fate and influence it in her favour. Gangubai Kathiawadi premiered at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival on February 16, 2022, and was released in theaters on February 25, 2022.

A girl is sold to Rashmibai’s brothel and forced into human trafficking. As the girl does not agree, Rashmibai finally takes the help of Gangubai Kathiawadi. Gangubai Kathiawadi, aka Ganga, wanted to be an actress but ran away to Bombay with her boyfriend Ramnik a few years ago, who sold her to Sheela Masi’s brothel. With no means to return, Gangubai
becomes a prostitute but earns the respect of the other wives as she was his main supporter in the fight against Sheela Masi. Gangubai then befriends don Rahim Lala and develops a brotherly relationship with him. Gangubai soon becomes known as the queen of the mafia and wants a better life for the women of her community. She decides to enter politics but faces a powerful rival, Rajibai.
Gangubai Kathiawadi Movie Review
Ajay sir has a cameo role but he played his role really well. Vijay Raaz has a bit part but he portrayed his role really well and I think you will like it.
The dialogues are great,
every dialogue resonates and connects with the story.
The direction is also good, it has a Sanjay Leela Bhansali feel to it.
Overall this movie is worth watching… I will give it 4 stars as this movie could have been made at least 30 minutes. Everything else is good.
