Gulmohar is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language family drama film written and directed by Rahul V. Chittela. Leading roles include Sharmila Tagore, Manoj Bajpai, Simran, Suraj Sharma, Amol Palekar, Kaveri Seth, and others. The film was released on the OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar on March 3, 2023. It was screened in the Mainstream category at the 54th IFFI India Panorama.

At the Filmfare OTT Awards 2023, Gulmohar was nominated in 14 categories and won three awards, including Best Actress in a Web Original Film and Best Supporting Actor in a Web Original Film (Sharma). At the 70th National Film Awards, the film won Best Hindi Feature Film, Best Screenplay (Dialogues) (Mukherjee and Chittela), and a Special Mention (Feature Film) (Bajpai).

The film follows the multi-generational Butler family as they prepare to move out of the home they’ve lived in for 34 years, and how this change in their lives leads to a rediscovery of the ties that have held them together as a family despite their secrets and anxieties.

Gulmohar Movie Review

I think this movie summed it up perfectly. The movie touches on many topics, but at the same time, it doesn’t carry too much weight with those topics. Spoiler alert – this movie could have been all about LGBTQ (and that’s not a bad thing),

but the makers knew that there’s so much more to life than that, like the family and work issues we all have. I really wish I’d seen it in the theater, but I’m glad I did. This is one of the best Bollywood movies I’ve seen in a long time, and I have a feeling I’ll be rewatching this movie as a feel-good movie in the near future.
