When the FBI teamed up with Seattle Police to arrest Scurlock, they were determined to prove that no one could outwit the authorities. What followed was a thrilling real-life version of cops and robbers, a matter of life and death. The 1996 robbery was planned by Scurlock as his final coup, but it ended in a shootout with police. He managed to escape, but was arrested by police the following Thanksgiving. Like his Point Break idol Bodie, Scurlock chose to end his own life rather than surrender. The treehouse was toppled less than two years after his death.
“There’s a ‘Scott’ and a ‘Hollywood’ inside of us,” Morse and Porges said. “The fun, funny, loving part of us that exists for our friends and family, and the selfish self inside of us that just wants more, more, more. One is not as ‘authentic’ as the other. They coexist, and it’s up to us to keep our darker side at bay.” In other words, just because you know how to rob a bank doesn’t mean you should.”

What’s even better is that this documentary is very honest. The police made a mistake. They’re not perfect, and they’re not necessarily the brightest minds in America (all you need to become a police officer is a high school diploma and a few weeks of training), but in the end, they were very willing. These robbers, yes, they were robbers, but they never hurt anyone. They never shot anyone. They never beat them or took any hostages. But the police, and by extension the government, wanted to scare the banks and the public into believing that Hollywood was this violent, crazy monster just waiting to scare them into believing they were scared. Even though all evidence contradicted that assumption, we still got a clue as to who they were. They get into a gunfight with guys with jammed guns and lie that they shot first. You can’t fire a gun that’s unloaded or jammed… so how can you “shoot first”? The story then changed to “I saw him with a rifle at the back window of the van” despite the fact that he made it clear multiple times that the windows were pitch black and he couldn’t see anything but the windshield. .

Then one of the robbers committed suicide and the police fired 76 rounds at his body. Absolutely disgusting. What this documentary doesn’t mention (but look it up in other videos) is that ordinary perpetrators were harmed by the police’s reckless and excessive gunfire.
Great doc. It’s definitely very cool to know how these guys planned the robbery and strategized to elude the police for so long.
