Joram is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language thriller film written and directed by Devashish Makhija and produced by Makhijafilm and Zee Studios. The film stars Manoj Bajpayee, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Smita Tambe.
The film marks Makhija’s third collaboration with Bajpayee after the 2016 short film Taandav and the 2018 dark drama Bhonsle. Joram was released in theatres on December 8, 2023. At the 69th Filmfare Awards, the film was nominated for three awards, including Best Film (Critics’ Choice) and Best Actor (Critics’ Choice) for Bajpayee, winning the former. A father is on the run with his young daughter, fleeing the ghosts of his past and the forces that want to kill him.

This film is a must watch to understand the reality of tribal people in India. Watching it, you realize that the “development” of a country is one-sided and does not apply to everyone. This film helps you understand the pain and suffering of a people that most of us did not even know existed.
Hats off to the writer, director, actors and all the crew. They all did a great job. We need more movies like this in our cinemas – movies that show real people in real life situations, not movies that show luxuries that only a few can relate to.
