Mission Raniganj: Bharat Rescue is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language disaster thriller film directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and produced by Pooja Entertainment. The film is based on the 1989 Raniganj coalfield collapse in West Bengal. The lead roles are played by Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra.Mission Raniganj is based on Jaswant Singh Gill, a brave and hardworking mining engineer from IIT Dhanbad, who rescued 65 miners trapped in the Raniganj coalfield in 1989.
Principal photography took place in the UK, Raniganj, Jharkhand and Mumbai from July 2022 to August 2023. The film was released theatrically on October 6, 2023.Despite positive reviews, the film was a huge flop at the box office.

Mission Raniganj Movie Story
In 1989, the shift change for miners in the Raniganj coalfields takes place around midnight. The mine is divided into three sections, in one of which a blast is triggered to open up a new coal vein. After the blast, water is found coming out of the shaft. An emergency evacuation order is given, but the Bhera (hearing impaired) section is led by a hearing impaired miner who cannot hear the telephone signals. All the 60+ miners in the Bhera section and most of the 200+ miners are evacuated, except for six miners who drowned while trying to escape the mine.
Jaswant Singh Gill is the manager of a nearby mine. Noticing an emergency vehicle approaching the mine, he decides to offer his services. On arrival, he encounters fierce resistance from other mine members who believe that all the miners are already dead and that rescue is futile. Ujjwal, the foreman of the flooded mine, asks him for his help in the rescue effort. Gill hires disgraced surveyor Tapan Ghosh and drilling engineer Bindal to explore the highest point of the mine. From here, they dig a borehole 20 cm deep.

A fantastic story of the great legend Jaswant Singh Gill Sir, beautifully realized and not fictional. Everyone knows the story but trust me, you will not get bored even once throughout the entire movie. You will not only enjoy it but also feel proud to be an Indian. I really liked him. Hats off to Akshay Sir for his choice of film as well as his fantastic acting and to the director and production company for making such a great film.
