Ponmagal Vandhal (translation: The Precious Girl Arrives) is a 2020 Indian Tamil-language legal drama film written and directed by J. J. Fredrick in his directorial debut and produced by Suriya under the banner of 2D Entertainment. The film stars Jyothika in the lead role and stars R. Parthiban, K. Bhagyaraj, Thiyagarajan, Prathap K. Pothan and Pandiarajan.
The film’s music is by Govind Vasantha, cinematography by Ramji and editing by Ruben. The film tells the story of a young lawyer who reopens an infamous case from 15 years ago following the death of a killer who had allegedly kidnapped and murdered a young girl.

In 2004, a North Indian woman named “Psycho” Jyoti was convicted for the murder of two young men named Rohit and Diwakar and the abduction and serial murder of numerous girls. She was found dead while on the run. 15 years later, Ooty resident “Petition” Pethuraj reopens the case. He claims that Jyoti is innocent and wants to defend her. Pethuraj’s daughter, amateur lawyer Venba, attempts to reopen the case despite opposition.
She manages to get a second hearing after Venba proves that Ramal, the key witness who testified against Jyoti, was in Chennai at the time of the murders and that he was only a person concocted by the investigating officer, DSP R. Alexander. As a result, the prosecutor’s post will be replaced by prominent criminal lawyer Rajarathinam, appointed by Rohit’s father, businessman Varadarajan.

An inspiring film with a very strong social message. The plight of a rape victim is given a close up look in the film and the manhunt for the rape perpetrators by the rich, powerful and violent people is depicted. The way in which the investigation is sloppy,
fabricated and manipulated through bribery and falsification of documents was clearly explained by the director in the plot. Jyothika’s excellent and outstanding acting drives the film forward and her performance in the emotional scenes of the film is a testament to how Jyothika truly embodies the character of the film with the brilliance of her acting… Overall a must watch film and a shout out to Jyothika starting with one of her best films ever.
