Call of the Wild is a 2020 American adventure film based on Jack London’s 1903 novel. It was directed by Chris Sanders, his live-action directorial debut and his first film without a co-director. It was written by Michael Green and stars Harrison Ford, Omar Sy, Kara Gee, Dan Stevens, Karen Gillan, and Bradley Whitford. Set during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush, the film follows a dog named Buck who is stolen from his California home and sent to the Yukon Territory, where he befriends an old outdoorsman and begins a life-changing adventure.
Call of the Wild was released by 20th Century Studios in the United States on February 21, 2020 (the company’s first film under its new name). The film received mixed reviews, with critics praising Ford’s acting, John Powell’s music, and the “funny action and serious tone”, but criticizing the “uncanny valley” effect caused by the CGI animals.The film was cancelled early due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It grossed $111 million on a production budget of $125–150 million, causing an estimated loss of $50–100 million for the studio.

In the late 19th century, Buck, a large, gentle St. Bernard/Scottish Shepherd mix, lives happily with his master, Judge Miller, in Santa Clara, California. One night, Buck is kidnapped and taken aboard a cargo ship to the Yukon Territory. During the voyage, the crew beat him with clubs to instill discipline. Upon arriving in Alaska, a pioneer named John Thornton loses his harmonica, which Buck retrieves.
Shortly thereafter, she is sold to Perrault and his partner, Françoise, who allows her to deliver mail across the Yukon River by dog sled. Perrault hopes that she can accompany Buck on the long journey to the post office before a deadline. Buck is introduced to the other dogs, Dolly, Pike, Joe, Billy, Dove, Dave and Sol-Lek, including a husky named Spitz, who is the leader of the pack.After proving himself along the way, Buck earns the loyalty and trust of Perrault, Françoise and the other sled dogs. He saves Françoise when she falls through the ice. All of this upsets Spitz.
The Call of the Wild Movie Review
This movie was amazing. He shows what is possible if you try to follow the right path. I personally loved this movie. I was immediately impressed with Buck. The CGI technology was really amazing and I could only understand parts of the movie. The plot was also great. As always, Harrison Ford impresses with his roles and will continue to do so. He made me believe in his role in this movie. One of the best movies of the year.
