The Last of Us is an American post-apocalyptic drama series created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO. The series is based on the video game series developed by Naughty Dog and is set 20 years after the outbreak of a pandemic caused by a mass fungal infection that transforms hosts into zombie-like creatures and causes the collapse of society.
The first season, based on the 2013 game, follows smuggler Joel (Pedro Pascal) who is tasked with escorting teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as she is vaccinated across a post-apocalyptic United States. The second season will adapt the 2020 sequel and will partially follow Abby (Kaitlyn Dever). Guest stars include Nico Parker as Joel’s daughter Sarah,
Merle Dandridge as resistance leader Marlene, Anna Torv as Joel’s partner Tess, Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy, Lamar Johnson and Kayvon Montreal Woodard as brothers Henry and Sam, and Melanie Lynskey and Jeffrey Pierce as siblings Kathleen, the resistance leader, and her lieutenant, Perry. The second season introduces Isabella Merced as Ellie’s love interest Dina, and a young Maginot as Dina’s ex, Jesse.

The Last of Us Story
The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world 20 years after a fungal epidemic caused by the Cordyceps sinensis fungus transformed much of humanity into mindless, aggressive creatures. Society has collapsed as a result of the infection, and survivors struggle to survive in harsh conditions under martial law.
Joel, a hardy smuggler who has suffered great losses, and Ellie, a 14-year-old girl whose immunity to an infectious disease may hold the key to human survival, are tasked with taking Ellie across the United States to a militia group called the Fireflies, who believe they can use Ellie’s immunity to develop a cure.
The Last of Us Review
The first few episodes had me hooked. The mushroom concept was a unique idea next to the realism of life in Zombieland and the weird characters, but the best part is the writing and acting.

I’m not a big fan of Bella Ramsey, but her attitude and determination were really annoyingly cool and a perfect contrast to Pedro Pascal’s calm Clint Eastwood demeanor.
I wish it had more than 8 episodes, but it ended on a high note and felt like a fitting ending that was in line with how the characters lived and thought, so kudos to the writers for staying consistent and making a great series.
