Totally Killer is a 2023 American slasher comedy film directed by Nahnatchka Khan. The screenplay was written by David Matalon, Sasha Pearl-Raver, and Jen D’Angelo, and the film’s story was written by Matalon and Pearl-Raver. The film is produced by Jason Blum under his Blumhouse Television banner and Adam Hendricks and Greg Gillies under their Divide/Conquer banner.
The film stars Kiernan Shipka, Olivia Holt, and Julie Bowen. The story follows Jamie (Shipka), whose mother was killed by the same Sweet 16 killer who committed a serial killer 35 years ago, who travels back in time to 1987 and teams up with her mother to catch the killer. During his original series, she returns to her timeline before she was trapped in the past forever. Totally Killer premiered at Fantastic Fest on September 28, 2023, and was released on Amazon Prime Video on October 6, 2023.

Thirty-five years after the shocking murders of three teenagers, the notorious killer returns on Halloween night to claim a fourth victim, and 17-year-old Jamie accidentally travels back in time to 1987 when he encounters a masked madman. Jamie must find his way in a different culture and team up with the teen’s mother to take down the psychopath once and for all.
Totally Killer Movie Review
I think the movie has a good balance between comedy and horror. I just wish the characters were a little better developed and the main character (Jamie) didn’t blurt things out so randomly. It didn’t help the story that she said “You should be with your boyfriend” or “There are homophobic overtones in this.” It would have been nice if the characters could have fought back against the serial killer instead of just sitting back and letting the killer do what he had to do.
