Ulajh is a 2024 Hindi-language Indian spy thriller film directed by Sudhanshu Saria and produced by Jungle Pictures. It stars Janhvi Kapoor, Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, and Adil Hussain. The plot revolves around a young IFS officer with a patriotic family who becomes embroiled in a dangerous personal intrigue while taking up a career-defining post far from home.

Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express rated the film 2/5 and wrote, “A flop that squanders a good ensemble on an amateurish plot. Suparna Sharma of The Week rated the film 2/5 and wrote, “A joyless film about daddy’s little girl who must somehow redeem herself, at least in her father’s eyes.” In this respect, the film delivers exactly what you’d expect.

Suhana’s journey begins with a prestigious promotion. She becomes the youngest Deputy High Commissioner at the British Embassy, a position that should be a source of great pride for her family. But her father, Dhanraj Bhatia, himself a accomplished diplomat, isn’t necessarily jumping for joy. Why? He believes Suhana’s success is due to her surname, not her own achievement. But Suhana won’t give in. She’s determined to prove her worth through hard work and dedication. Her recent success in Kathmandu, where she deftly negotiated inside information about a minister’s son, showcases her tactical acumen. As she heads to the UK, Suhana vows to prove she deserves the position, with or without a surname.

Ulajh Movie Review
The screenplay is tight and engrossing, expertly peppered with twists and turns from the get-go. The story grips you from the first scene and maintains its momentum until the end. Unlike most Bollywood thrillers, the developments here feel genuine and earned, avoiding the trap of contrived surprises. The dialogue seamlessly complements the story.
The cinematography is crisp and the production design is equally impressive. Nitin Baid’s editing is superb and keeps the film’s pacing solid. The music, background music and sound design enhance the viewing experience. But the film’s strongest elements are truly the acting and direction.
Jahnvi Kapoor is perfectly cast in a role that resonates narratively and metatextually, especially given the film’s theme of nepotism, and she delivers an honest and fitting performance. Much like her character Suhana, Jahnvi rises to the challenge and brings a compelling presence to her role.
