Glass is a 2019 superhero film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. It serves as a crossover and sequel to his previous films Unbreakable (2000) and Split (2016), making it the third and final installment in the Unbreakable trilogy. The movie brings back Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Spencer Treat Clark, and Charlayne Woodard from Unbreakable, while James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy reprise their roles from Split. New additions to the cast include Sarah Paulson, Adam David Thompson, and Luke Kirby. The story centers on David Dunn, also known as The Overseer, and Kevin Wendell Crumb, also known as The Horde, who are both captured and placed in a psychiatric facility alongside Elijah Price, also known as Mr. Glass, where they wrestle with the question of whether their superhuman abilities are real.

Although there was interest in a sequel to Unbreakable, Walt Disney Studios’ Touchstone Pictures declined to finance it. Shyamalan later wrote Split, incorporating a character originally intended for Unbreakable, but had removed from its script to maintain balance. After the success of Split, he realized the potential to create a trilogy and used the film’s ending to tie it into the Unbreakable storyline. This required securing the rights from Disney to use Willis’ and Jackson’s characters, with the agreement that Disney would be involved alongside Universal Pictures. Following the success of Split, Shyamalan announced in April 2017 that production on Glass had begun.

Glass Movie Story

David Dunn, also known as The Overseer, along with his son Joseph, tracks down Kevin Wendell Crumb, a man with multiple personalities known as The Horde, at an abandoned factory near Philadelphia. The Horde has four cheerleaders held captive to offer as sacrifices to The Beast, a powerful superhuman personality that the other identities revere. Dunn manages to rescue the cheerleaders and briefly clashes with The Beast, but they are both captured by Dr. Ellie Staple. They are taken to Raven Hill Memorial, where Elijah Price, also known as Mr. Glass, is being held after his confrontation with Dunn over a decade earlier.

At Raven Hill, David and Kevin are placed in separate rooms equipped with specialized security systems that exploit their respective weaknesses: water for David and light flashes for Kevin. Dr. Staple explains her belief that they do not possess superhuman abilities and suffer from delusions of grandeur. Despite efforts from Elijah’s mother, Mrs. Price, Joseph Dunn, and Casey Cooke—a survivor of The Horde’s captivity—to convince her otherwise, Staple remains unconvinced. During a final evaluation, Staple confronts the three men, offering rational explanations for their seemingly superhuman feats. This leaves David and some of Kevin’s personalities confused, while Elijah remains unresponsive.

Glass Movie Review

This movie was incredible, and I’m surprised by the low ratings. To truly appreciate it, you need to have seen the first two films in the series and understand them fully. I loved how they brought back many of the original actors, which gave us fans the chance to reconnect with the characters we’ve grown to love. Glass, the final film, did a great job tying everything together. For me, it was one of the best movies of 2019, and it was exceptionally well written. This is probably as close as we’ll get to seeing real-life superheroes in today’s world. The movie stands in a league of its own. They did an excellent job, and while I wish the series could continue, I understand why it had to end the way it did.
