Bard of Blood Story
Kabir Anand is a former Indian Intelligence Service (IIW) officer who was forced to retire after an operation that killed his partner. Now he works as a literature teacher and looks after the wife and son of his late friend. When four Indian intelligence officers are captured by the Taliban in Quetta, Intelligence Director General Sadiq Sheikh calls on a reluctant Kabir to rescue them. He initially refuses, but when he finally decides to take up the mission, he finds Sadiq dead at his home. He is interrogated by Intelligence Director General Arun Joshi on suspicion of murder and is later released. Kabir notices a man taking pictures during Sadiq’s cremation and follows him, meeting analyst Isha Khanna instead. When Kabir decodes the message left by Sadiq before his death, he comes to the conclusion that this mission in Balochistan is unauthorized and that he, Isha, and another agent named Veer Singh, who has been undercover for a long time, want to return home. Soon after meeting, Kabir and his team join forces to complete the mission.
Bard of Blood Review
First of all, production designer Sunil Nigvekar has done a fantastic job. The cinematography of the film is amazing and the harsh brown landscape reflects the bleak reality of people living with nothing to do in Balochistan. For those who have heard of Balochistan, Pakistan is recreated in Ladakh, Rajasthan and Mumbai. The locations shown are also far from reality.
As far as pacing is concerned, there is literally nothing new in this show and some scenes are just plain farce. It is a mix of emotions, love, betrayal, revenge and confusion. Though there are many flaws to keep the show true to itself, the plot twists are well-timed and there are enough cliffhanger moments sprinkled throughout the series to keep you hooked if you are a gun-toting, cliffhanger-loving player. The mix of suspense and action along the story is truly mind-blowing. The Urdu language is well utilized with a lightness and sophistication to make the audience experience the depth of the story.
