Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui is a 2021 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed by Abhishek Kapoor. It stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor. The film was released in theatres on December 10, 2021.
At the 67th Filmfare Awards, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui was nominated in four categories, including Best Music Direction (Sachin-Jigar), Best Playback Singer (Priya Saraiya for “Kare Kare”), and won Best Story (Abhishek Kapoor, Supratik Sen, and Tushar Paranjape).
Principal photography began in Chandigarh on October 21, 2020. Filming was completed on December 22, 2020.
Hiren Kotwani of The Times of India rated the film 4/5 and praised Abhishek Kapoor’s direction. He wrote that “it handles the harsh realities of the subject with sensitivity and maturity. Umesh Punwani of Koimoi gave the film a rating of 3.5/5 and wrote that “it deals with a sensitive subject and yet is entertaining enough to get the message across. Love is love is beautifully delivered. Devesh Sharma of Filmfare gave the film a rating of 3.5/5 and wrote that “Ayushmann and Vaani have given it their all with this film. The film is not without its flaws but its purpose is so monumental that it is wise to ignore them. Shubhra Gupta of Indian Express gave the film a rating of 2.5/5 and wrote that “Ayushmann Khurrana is the real deal. The boy from Chandigarh feels very at home alongside the bristly, muscular and soft Manu. Vaani Kapoor plays a svelte, certified fitness trainer with a troubled past, reminiscent of her promising role in Shuddh Desi Romance. Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV gave the film a rating of 2.5/5 and wrote: “The woke sound he is about to make ultimately doesn’t stray even a step from accepted notions of what masculinity is.”

Manvinder “Manu” Munjal, a bodybuilder, is the owner of a gym in Chandigarh and is preparing for the annual “G.O.A.T” competition. Unfortunately, his gym fails to attract customers until Zumba instructor Maanvi Brar joins the gym and improves his financial situation. Manu falls in love with Maanvi and when they kiss for the first time, Maanvi tells him that she has something to say to him. However, Manu doesn’t want to listen to her and initiates sex. Though hesitant at first, she continues and the two come close to climaxing. They later begin a sexual relationship. Manu’s family also likes Maanvi and his sisters encourage Manu to marry her. When Manu finally expresses his intention to marry, Maanvi reveals that she is a trans woman. Angry and stunned, Manu says he will take revenge. He feels disgusted with himself for always thinking that he “had sex with a man”. His friends make derogatory comments about Maanvi, which angers him further. A must for everyone. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a truly great Bollywood romantic comedy. This was just on another level. Like everyone else, I wish Maanvi had been a transgender woman, but Vaani did an amazing job. Her eyes were filled with emotion and pain, when she cried I cried and when she laughed I laughed too. I was traveling with her, by her side.
