Super 30 is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language biographical drama directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Phantom Films, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Reliance Entertainment, and HRX Films. The film stars Hrithik Roshan as Anand Kumar, a renowned mathematician and educator who created the Super 30 educational program. Supporting roles are played by Nandish Sandhu, Virendra Saxena, Mrunal Thakur, Pankaj Tripathi, Aditya Srivastava, and Amit Sadh.
This film was Phantom Films’ final production. Principal photography began in January 2018 and concluded in September of the same year. Super 30 was released in theaters on July 12, 2019, and received positive reviews, with Roshan’s performance earning particular acclaim. The film grossed ₹208.93 crore globally, making it the 12th highest-grossing Hindi film of 2019 Ajay-Atul composed the music for Super 30, with lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The film opens with Fugga, a successful individual, delivering a talk in London, during which he reflects on his experiences learning from his teacher, Anand Kumar. The narrative then shifts back in time to a younger Anand in college. Coming from a lower-income background, Anand is passionate about his studies and excels academically. During a local competition, the minister, Shriram Singh, expresses pride in Anand’s achievements and promises to assist him whenever necessary.
Anand often visits the Banaras Hindu University library, where he immerses himself in mathematics by solving problems published in a foreign math journal. One day, the library supervisor catches him and informs him that he has no right to read there. A staff member suggests that he publish his work in the journal to earn a free lifetime subscription. Anand takes this advice to heart and goes to the post office, where his father, Rajendra, works as the head, to send a letter detailing his solution to a challenging math problem that has stumped many. His solution gets published in the journal, earning him a letter from Professor Richard of the University of Cambridge inviting him to join a program there. While Anand’s family is fully supportive of his aspirations, they struggle financially and cannot afford his travel to England. Seeking help, Anand and Rajendra approach Minister Shriram Singh, but he reneges on his promise. Despite Anand showing him his medal as a reminder of his commitment, they are unable to secure funding. In their attempts to raise money, they find themselves powerless. Tragically, that same night, Rajendra suffers a heart attack and dies while they rush him to the hospital. Devastated by his father’s death and their dire financial situation, Anand ultimately decides to forgo his opportunity to go to Cambridge.

While the story may seem fictitious and cinematic, the reality is that Anand Kumar has faced numerous attacks throughout his journey. Ironically, despite his efforts to provide a free education system, the government and the existing educational framework still heavily rely on coaching and money. Few have managed to adopt Anand’s self-inspired approach, which aims to uplift the poorest and most remote sections of India—students who may not even have seen a television at home, yet possess the brilliance to build one.
