Soukalpettai is a 2016 Tamil horror comedy film directed by Vadivudayan. Srikanth plays the dual role of hero and villain alongside Lakshmi Rai. Music is by John Peter. The film was released on 4 March 2016 in Chennai only.
When a couple is murdered by a brutal businessman, their ghosts begin to haunt the killers as a revenge.
The film was first reported in March 2015, when Vadivudayan announced that he would be producing a film set in Soukalpet, starring Srikanth and Lakshmi Rai in the lead roles. Production on the film began in March 2015, and the team hinted that it would be a “horror comedy.The film will be produced in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The film is titled Siva Ganga in Telugu and Tantra Shakti in Hindi.
Vishal Menon of The Hindu called it “another horror-cum-raunchy comedy, the latest in Kollywood’s trend after the Aranmanai series”, and said that “not even the ghosts (mainly Rai Lakshmi) are in the foreground of this film. It manages to avoid objectification. M. Suganth of The Times of India gave the film a rating of 1.5/5 and wrote, “As a horror film, Soukarpettai is hardly scary. It’s one of those cheaply produced, formulaic horror movies that tries to cash in on a trend by relying on cheesy visual effects, loud music, and costumes and makeup that make the characters look like poorly dressed guests at a Halloween party.

The film revolves around a young couple, Shakthi (played by Shrikanth) and Maya (played by Rai Lakshmi), who are deeply in love with each other. Shakthi is a successful businessman and Maya has supernatural powers inherited from her family. Their love and future are thwarted by evil forces who bear enmity against Shakthi’s family.
As the plot progresses, both Shakthi and Maya are killed by these antagonists for personal gain. However, Maya’s soul returns to seek revenge on those responsible for her death. What follows is a series of supernatural, vengeful events as the souls of Shakti and Maya seek justice.
