Dada is a 2023 Indian Tamil language coming-of-age romantic comedy film produced by S. Anveth Kumar and directed by Ganesh K. Babu in his directorial debut. Kavin and Aparna Das play the lead roles, with K. Bhagyaraj, Aishwarya Bhaskaran and VTV Ganesh in supporting roles. Music was composed by Jen Martin, while K. Egil Arasu and Kathiresh Alagesan handled cinematography and editing, respectively.
Dada will hit theatres on February 10, 2023.
The project was announced by debut filmmaker Ganesh K. Babu and will also mark the Tamil lead actress debut of Aparna Das, who made her debut in a minor role in Nelson’s directorial venture Beast (2022).
Principal photography for the film began in March 2022, with the majority of the film shot and set in Chennai. The film’s shooting was completed in September 2022.
The digital streaming rights for the film have been secured by Amazon Prime Video, while the satellite rights have been sold to Kalaignar TV. The film was made available on streaming platforms from March 10, 2023, but the Tamil version was quickly removed and only the Hindi version was made available. Many fans demanded a Tamil release, but producer S. Anveth Kumar maintained that there would be no Tamil release on OTT.

Manikandan and Sindhu, final year college students, are dating. Sindhu gets pregnant and her life changes. Mani asks Sindhu to get an abortion but she refuses and the two end up renting a house together. Due to his alcoholism, Mani abuses Sindhu by not paying attention to her and not taking care of her. After Sindhu gives birth, when Mani arrives at the hospital, he finds that Sindhu has disappeared leaving the baby behind. Mani takes care of the baby, names the child Aditya and raises him to be a gentleman.

A few years later, Mani searches for a new job and finally finds one, where he meets Sindhu. Mani is nervous about working in an office at first, as he knows he is the manager of the company, but later becomes comfortable going to the office. One day, Mani brings Aditya to the office. When Aditya tells Sindhu his name (Aditya is the name Sindhu chose) and that his father is Mani, Sindhu realizes that he is her son.

This is such a beautifully made film. Though the story is somewhat predictable, the writing and direction are on a whole different level. The emotional father-son duo was so moving, it brought out so many emotions from within and brought me to tears. The transformation of a carefree man into a responsible father is so heartwarming to watch! The humour is also modern and there are many tear-jerking moments. All the lead actors did a very good job, but Kavin’s performance in particular was outstanding. I can’t remember a film recently that evoked so many emotions and this film resonates so well in our lives.
