Logan is a 2017 American superhero film starring Hugh Jackman as the title character. It serves as the tenth installment in the X-Men film series and the final chapter of the Wolverine trilogy, following X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and The Wolverine (2013). Inspired by the “Old Man Logan” comic storyline by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, the film follows an aging Wolverine and a gravely ill Charles Xavier as they try to protect Laura, a young mutant, from the Reavers, a group led by Donald Pierce and Zander Rice. The film was produced by 20th Century Fox, Marvel Entertainment, TSG Entertainment, and The Donners’ Company, and distributed by 20th Century Fox. Directed by James Mangold, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Green and Scott Frank, Logan marks the film debut of Dafne Keen as Laura, alongside Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, and Stephen Merchant.
Set in a near-future world, Logan presents a darker, more violent tone, drawing more from the Western genre than traditional superhero films. The production emphasized a grounded, gritty aesthetic with slight technological advancements to create a bleak, dystopian atmosphere. Principal photography took place between May 2, 2016, and August 13, 2016, primarily in Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi. Logan premiered at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival on February 17, 2017, and was released in the U.S. on March 3, 2017. The film received widespread acclaim for its action sequences, emotional depth, performances, and Mangold’s direction. It was hailed as the best-reviewed film in the X-Men franchise and was named one of the top ten films of 2017 by the National Board of Review. Logan became the first live-action superhero film to earn an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 90th Academy Awards. The film grossed $619.2 million worldwide, making it the third-highest-grossing R-rated film at the time of its release

Logan Movie Story
In 2029, mutants have not been born for 25 years, and an aging Logan is struggling as his healing abilities are deteriorating, while the adamantium in his skeleton slowly poisons him. He works as a limousine driver in El Paso, Texas, and cares for the 97-year-old Charles Xavier, who suffers from dementia that triggers devastating telepathic seizures. These seizures were responsible for the deaths of several X-Men years earlier. Logan and fellow mutant Caliban look after Xavier in an abandoned smelting plant in northern Mexico.
Logan reluctantly agrees to help Gabriela López, a former nurse for the biotech company Alkali-Transigen, by escorting her and a young girl named Laura to Eden, a rumored safe haven near the American-Canadian border. Soon after, Logan discovers Gabriela has been murdered. He is confronted by Donald Pierce, Transigen’s cyborg security chief, who is searching for Laura. Logan discovers Laura has stowed away in his limo and possesses powers similar to his. Along with Xavier, they flee from Pierce and his team of Reavers, while Caliban is captured and tortured into helping Pierce track Laura.
Logan Movie Review
Logan is one of the best X-Men-related films, truly standing out on its own. Based on the Old Man Logan storyline from Marvel Comics, the film presents a bleak, dark, and desolate future for the X-Men, especially for Logan, who is now broken by life, battling alcoholism, and tasked with caring for an ailing Professor X (Charles Xavier), a telepathic medium. Logan is also drawn into protecting a young mutant, Laura, who shares his accelerated healing abilities and has an indestructible metal skeleton with retractable claws. Together, they must escape the Grim Reavers, a group of ruthless cyborg mercenaries seeking to capture Laura for sinister purposes.

The film excels in every aspect—acting, writing, direction, and storytelling. It should have earned an Academy Award for its achievements. Poignant, emotionally charged, intense, and fast-paced, Logan is not just a superhero film but a powerful, disconsolate journey. It’s also graphically violent and profane, so be prepared. For Wolverine fans, this is a must-see, deserving an 11 out of 10 rating.
