Lucifer is an American urban fantasy television series created by Tom Kapinos that aired from January 25, 2016, to September 10, 2021. The show centers around Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis), a reimagined version of the DC Comics character, first introduced in The Sandman by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg. In this series, Lucifer, the Devil, abandons Hell to run a nightclub in Los Angeles. His life takes an unexpected turn when he becomes a consultant for the Los Angeles Police Department, helping to solve crimes while grappling with his own personal dilemmas.
The cast includes Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, D.B. Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Rachael Harris, and Aimee Garcia. Initially filmed primarily in Vancouver, production shifted entirely to Los Angeles from the third season onwards. The series centers on Lucifer Morningstar, a fallen angel who was banished from Heaven for his rebellion and condemned to rule Hell for millennia. Dissatisfied and bored with his existence as the lord of Hell, Lucifer defies his father (God) by abandoning his throne and relocating to Los Angeles, where he opens his own nightclub. His life takes a turn when he becomes entangled in a murder investigation and meets Chloe Decker, a detective with the LAPD. Chloe intrigues Lucifer because she is the only human immune to his powers of seduction and manipulation.
After using his unique ability to coax people’s deepest desires to help solve the case, Lucifer is invited to continue working with Chloe as a consultant for the LAPD. Over the course of the series, they form a close partnership, encountering numerous supernatural beings while solving various crimes together. As they navigate the complexities of their relationship, Lucifer also grapples with his identity and purpose beyond his role as the Devil.
