In Cirkus, the story begins in 1944 with Dr. Roy Jamnadas, who separates two sets of identical twins found at his orphanage to study the nature vs. nurture theory. One pair, Roy 1 and Joy 1, is adopted by a circus owner in Ooty, while the other pair, Roy 2 and Joy 2, is adopted by a wealthy industrialist in Bangalore. Both pairs are named after Dr. Roy and his brother Joy. Roy 1 possesses a unique ability to withstand electric shocks, becoming known as the “Electric Man,” while Roy 2 experiences electric shocks whenever Roy 1 is near electricity.

Thirty years later, Roy 1’s wife, Mala, wishes to adopt a child from the orphanage, but Roy 1 opposes the idea. Meanwhile, Roy 2 is in love with Bindu, but her father mistakenly believes he is cheating on her after confusing him with Roy 1. The twins’ lives intertwine when Roy 2 and Joy 2 visit Ooty to purchase a tea estate, leading to a series of misunderstandings as people confuse the pairs. Complicating matters, three robbers attempt to rob them but retreat after Roy 2 shocks them. As the confusion escalates, Bindu’s father believes Roy 2 is married to Mala, prompting Bindu to threaten their relationship.
