The Exorcist is a 2023 supernatural horror film written by Michael Petroni and Evan Spiliotopoulos and directed by Julius Avery, based on the 1990 book The Exorcist Speaks and the 1992 book The Exorcist: The Further Story of Father Gabriele Amorth. The film stars Russell Crowe as Amorth, with Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe and Franco Nero in supporting roles.
Production began in 2020 when Screen Gems acquired the rights to Amorth’s story. After a directorial change and script revisions, filming took place in Ireland between August and October 2022.

In 1987, the Pope’s personal exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth, a down-to-earth, humorous and practical scooter rider, visits an Italian village where he finds a man who appears to be possessed by a demon. Amorth and the local priest enter the room where the man is being held. While exorcising the demon with a medal of St. Benedict, Amorth mocks the demon and tells it to move onto a pig. As he does so, the pig is killed with a shotgun.
This incident gets Amorth in trouble with a church tribunal for acting without the permission of his superiors. One of the tribunal members is Bishop Lumumba, and the other is Cardinal Sullivan, an American skeptic of demon possession.
The Pope’s Exorcist Movie Review
Just when you think something is going to happen, the opposite happens in the best case scenario. The cinematography is absolutely perfect, the way the camera shoots with the actors added a realism to the viewing experience. And it’s guaranteed to scare you. There’s not too much gore or unnecessary horror, just enough to make sure your heart races. This is a movie that you 1000% have to see in the theater to enjoy it to the fullest, and I have nothing bad to say about that. Great job
