How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (also known as How to Train Your Dragon 3) is a 2019 American animated fantasy film, loosely based on the book series by Cressida Cowell. Produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Universal Pictures, it serves as the sequel to How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) and the concluding chapter of the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. Written and directed by Dean DeBlois, and produced by Bonnie Arnold and Brad Lewis, the movie features voice performances from Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Cate Blanchett, Craig Ferguson, and F. Murray Abraham, alongside supporting roles voiced by Gerard Butler, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Kit Harington, and others. The story follows 21-year-old Hiccup as he searches for a dragon utopia known as the “Hidden World” while dealing with Toothless’s new bond with a female dragon called a Light Fury, and facing off against Grimmel the Grisly, a ruthless dragon hunter.
Development for a third How to Train Your Dragon film began in December 2010, with DeBlois noting that the second movie was designed to be the middle act of a trilogy. Due to changes in distributors, the release date shifted multiple times. To handle the animation challenges, DreamWorks Animation had to invent new software, particularly for the lighting of the Light Fury dragon.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Movie Story
A year after becoming chieftain, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, along with his Night Fury, Toothless, and the other dragon riders, continues rescuing captured dragons and bringing them to Berk. However, the island is becoming overcrowded with dragons. To solve this, Hiccup seeks to find the “Hidden World,” a legendary safe haven for dragons that his late father, Stoick, had once spoken of. Meanwhile, warlords capture a rare white female Light Fury and offer her as bait to the notorious dragon hunter, Grimmel the Grisly, to help them capture Toothless, hoping to use him as their alpha dragon.
While in the woods, Toothless encounters the Light Fury, and the two are immediately drawn to each other. However, when the Light Fury senses Hiccup and Astrid nearby, she flees. Later, Hiccup and Tuffnut discover Grimmel’s dragon traps in the area. That night, Grimmel confronts Hiccup, demanding that he surrender Toothless. He reveals that he has hunted Night Furies to near extinction, but Hiccup, expecting the attack, sets a trap of his own. Grimmel manages to escape, and his Deathgripper dragons set fire to Hiccup’s house and much of Berk. In response, Hiccup rallies the citizens and dragons to abandon Berk and embark on a journey to find the Hidden World and escape the threat of dragon hunters.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Movie Review
This movie truly gives its all, with each installment only getting better, and now we’ve been given the very best. It’s more than just a film; it’s a story that captivates and deeply involves its audience, making us feel every emotion as the characters do. Joy, sadness, anger, fear, excitement—everything you could ever experience, everything you could ever imagine is packed into this movie. It may not be perfect—nothing in the world is—but I believe it’s truly remarkable.
Despite all the positive reviews and praise, I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed that this is the final film. I mean, they could have continued, making even more extraordinary and incredible stories, but who am I to decide? All in all, I’m proud to have witnessed such a great film and a wonderful tale of friendship. It’s truly “The Friendship of a Lifetime.” Thank you for creating such an unforgettable movie and letting us be part of this journey until the very end
